This really works well – for vacuuming out small pools. Here’s how I use it to get the best results and nice, clear water. If your pool is small enough to run around in circles to get the water all swirling in one direction, do it when you’re ready to get out for a while. The smaller the pool, the better this will work. Have the pool filter and pump running and make sure the pool filter is clean. Let the water swirl and then slow down, and eventually stop, and let the water’s particulate matter settle for a couple of hours. Most of the matter in the pool, like sand, silt, and small leaves and other stuff will have settled in a compact circle in the center of the pool. The white mesh bag they give to use as a strainer/filter/collection bag is useless. Find something else you can use it for. Find a thick knee sock with some stretch to it – I used a thick sock that they sell you for improving blood circulation on flights. If you don’t have them, try a couple of thicknesses of regular knee socks. Put the sock(s) on the outlet where the white mesh bag would have gone. A knee sock should grip the outlet very well. Attach the garden hose, turn it on, and slowly lower the unit into the pool, trying not to stir up the sediment. Put the vacuum head directly over the patch of sediment and slowly move the lead back and forth, side to side until you’ve removed all of the debris from the floor of the pool. Take the vacuum out of the pool, turn the sock(s) inside out and marvel at the amount of silt, sand, dead algae etc has been collected in the toe of the sock. Rinse the debris from the sock and dry it, ready for the next time it’s needed. I do this whenever needed (I’m fussy about a clean pool, so 2 or 3 times per week. takes me 10 minutes, start to finish). This will get most particulate matter out of your pool. There are other products to try depending on your budget if you still have cloudy water – agents that cause very fine organic material to clump together to that it’s more easily trapped by your pool filter. Clarifiers, they’re called. I haven’t tried them yet. This pool vacuum will not pick up heavy pebbles and grit, there are always a few I end up reaching in and picking up off the bottom with my hands. All the fine silt and sand should be gone before you do that.
