Description About the White Bird of Paradise The White Bird of Paradise can be used to accentuate high columns near the entryway of a home, to add tropical notes as wallpaper in a mixed-bed, or as an eye-catching container plant on the patio or swimming pool deck. Because this is a clustering plant, which grows several stalks, it is possible to trim down a few of the stalks without harming the plant. White Birds of Paradise is sometimes confused with the Wanderers Palm, as the two appear similar in youth, but Birds does not grow quite as large or develop the trunk of the palm.   Although plants that have fan-like leaves similar to a travelers palm are typically smaller in landscapes, when they are mature, they can grow to 20-30 feet tall. The plants can grow up to 20-30 feet tall, spreading out to 10 feet wide, although often seen in much smaller sizes. Multiple plants can be connected with larger segments of roots that may have to be broken off to release plantlets.  If there are several plants growing, remove the pot and gently pull on the plants, being careful to avoid disturbing too many roots.
