Description About The Heliconia Flowers vary in shape, size, and color depending on the variety of heliconia. Heliconia species range in size, color, and shape, but heliconias are all tropical plants. Heliconias are a group of plants that can grow as large as 15 feet (4.5 meters) in the wild, but probably as small as 3 to 6 feet (1-2 meters) in the domestic landscape. The great thing about Heliconia plant species is you can grow them as container plants, if growing them in a garden is not an option. You can find more than 200 flowering perennial varieties of Heliconia, with each one having their own exotic flowers. Tropical gardeners are fortunate enough to have access to some of the most charming blooming plants for growing. Most of these tropical landscaping plants will grow about 3 to 4 feet high, although some varieties can grow much larger. Dwarf heliconia psittacorum, or Parakeet Flower, is a popular interior plant that grows quickly. Heliconias are grown as ornamental plants throughout the world, growing in tropical regions. Produced during the spring and summer, heliconias have true flowers that are smaller. Heliconia flowers are tiny, found within these bracts, which are so big and colourful they nearly cover the flowers entirely. Heliconia leaves are like a certain type of banana tree, and flower bracts come out from the plant as a bundle of bananas. Heliconia champneiana produces a large, upright stalk with about ten to several bracts that are reddish-gold in color. As far as the colors of the Heliconias are concerned for the festive seasons, you can expect celebratory colors, since the plant produces rose-red bracts with green and white sepals. Lobster claw plants are no different, producing large, colorful bracts clustered up a stalk. One called Lobster claw (pictured below), with its distinctive claw-like flowers, grows to six feet high, while other types can reach as high as fifteen feet. Lobster Claws, also called Parrots Flower, has small, unremarkable flowers covered in showy braclets. Several species are grown for their colorful blooming bracts (leaf-shaped structures) such as the Red Parakeet Heliconia Rhizome. Collectively, most species are also referred to as heliconia. In the north, heliconias such as the Red Parakeet Heliconia Rhizome are ideal to add a tropical touch, either as annuals or as container gardens. In tropical areas, heliconias add a striking accent to landscaping beds and borders, thanks to their large leaves and colorful, fun-looking flowers. Beautiful Heliconias With Their Exotic Flowers Their exotic flowers add the lush tropical appearance of a South Florida landscape.
